The Five Modes of RVEAL

Imagine your team is launching a new service. At first, the questions are about direction and possibilities. Soon, people need to agree on a plan, turn decisions into work, and build a reliable way to keep delivering after launch. A project manager uses all five modes over the course of that work.
RVEAL calls these ways of working Modes. Everyone can draw on all five. Some come naturally; others call for deliberate effort. The RVEAL Alignment Profile helps you see that pattern, recognize your strengths, and notice when the project needs a different mode.
1. Relation
Relation is about people, connection, and team cohesion. During the launch, sales and delivery may disagree about what is ready to promise customers. Relation helps the project manager bring both sides into the conversation, work through the concern, and keep the team moving together.
2. Vision
Vision asks where the project is going and why. A service designed to shorten wait times will be built differently from one meant to reach new customers. The purpose shapes what the team chooses to build.
3. Exploration
Exploration asks questions, tests assumptions, and discovers new options. The team's first idea for the service may not be the best one. Exploring other approaches and testing them with potential customers can reveal a better way forward before the plan is fixed.
4. Action
Action brings momentum, execution, and getting things done. Once the plan is set, the team runs the launch, handles the first customer requests, and solves problems as they arise. The service becomes something customers can use.
5. Legation
Legation builds structure, processes, and systems that last. The project manager defines the handoffs, procedures, and quality checks for delivering the service, then adjusts them as the team learns from the launch. Those steps help the service run reliably after the original project is over.
Putting the Modes to Work
A project needs all five: Vision to set direction, Exploration to open new options, Action to get the work done, Legation to make it repeatable, and Relation to keep people connected throughout. You can move among them, even when some take more deliberate effort. Your leading modes show where you are most naturally drawn into that work. Make room for them, notice when a project needs a different mode, and work with people whose approaches complement yours. That is how ideas become lasting results and how you find work that makes better use of what motivates you.
